Thanks for the heads-up on the report Susan. Despite its engaging 'fun'
title, at first blush it appears to present credible considerations
supporting a re-review of the NPDWS MCLs for alpha emitters. It's premised
on the familiar ICRP 2 v. FGR 11/13 dosimetry system deltas that often
produce interesting results (especially for alpha emitters). The
well-written report specifically addresses transuranics following a
rulemaking experience in Colorado. The EPA has responded safely to IEER
saying the report will be considered during the required regulatory
re-review of the NPDWS in 2006. So we can expect to eventually read their
formal take on it in the FR.

Unfortunately, the folks who have signed-on to IEER's letter distributing
the report reads like the mailing list of a "Save the <insert your favorite
mammal>" coalition.
