Dear Radsafers:

This is to inform everyone of a new manual for hospital personnel relating
to treatment of patients after a radiological mass casualty event. This
manual has something new---a practical way to estimate radionuclide body
burden in patients so that decisions may be made regarding the use of
decorporation therapy.

This manual was prepared for the Los Angeles County Department of Health
Services Emergency Medical Services Agency, and is on their web site. The
url, title, and authors are:

                                        June, 2006

While the manual was written for Los Angeles County, much of it is
applicable to other locales. If you work in a medical institution, I would
suggest passing this on to your Emergency Medicine, Nuclear Medicine, and
Internal Medicine physicians, as well as the people in your institution who
do emergency planning.
