----------------------------------

The Baltimore Washington Chapter of the Health Physics
Society will be conducting its Certification
Preparation and Professional Development course in
2006. The course is designed for the Health Physicist
who plans to take Part I and/or Part II of the
American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) certification
exam, or for the HP or CHP who wishes to enhance their
knowledge of Health Physics.

Approval from ABHP for Continuing Education Credits is
in process. CHPs will soon be able to receive CECs for
attending any of the classes that may interest them.
This is a great opportunity to brush up on topics you
may not work with on a regular basis. CECs have been
offered in the past but only for attending the entire
course. This year it is being made available to CHPs
on a topic-by-topic basis. Each class will most
likely offer 2 CECs for about $30 per class. As a
special offer, any CHP interested in being a
facilitator during the session they are interested in
attending will have the $30 fee waived (on a first
come first serve basis).

The course will be composed of approximately 18
three-hour problem solving classes addressing the
topics listed below. Each class will consist of a
brief (20 to 30 minute) review of pertinent material
in a given area of health physics and problem-solving
sessions addressing both Part I and Part II type
questions. Students will be assigned readings and
homework problems which will be discussed in class.
These classes will be lead by experts. Provided texts
will be Cember, Cember and Johnson’s Solutions Manual,
Bevelacqua’s Part I and Part II books, Moe’s
Operational Health Physics Training, and Schleien’s
Radiological Health Handbook. Additional materials
will be provided as needed.

TIME/DATE: Classes will take place on Tuesday from
6:30PM to 9:30 PM. The first class is scheduled for
January 31, 2006. The last class is scheduled for May
30, 2006.

LOCATION: Classes will take place at the Uniformed
Services University of the Health Sciences, 4301 Jones
Bridge Road, Bethesda, Maryland 20814.

COSTS:
•	$800 per student
•	Partial scholarships are available to students who
are in need of financial assistance. To apply for a
scholarship, state how much you can reasonably pay and
the reason paying the full cost would be a hardship.
Enclose the statement and a check for what you can
afford to pay with your application. If you are not
offered the course at the reduced rate, your check
will be returned.
•	Checks, Money Orders, Purchase Orders Accepted

PAYMENT: Make checks, money orders, and purchase
orders payable to the Baltimore-Washington Chapter HPS
Inc. and submit along with the application to:
