10CFR20 obviously but I can't quote the site right off the top of my
head. If you have the source in an area, some consider that area to be
an RMA (Radioactive Materials Area) and there is no eating, drinking,
smoking, chewing in such areas. If the source is in an RCA
(Radiologically Controlled Area) then there is a standing moratorium on
eating, drinking, smoking, chewing. The site would most likely be in
RCA/RMA controls area of the Code. There would, of course, be a grey
area in respect to transport of such items. The sealed sources should,
and I imagine are, part of a source control program in which they are
periodically smeared and checked for leakage or any condition in which
the radioactive material may become friable or readily transferable. But
with an unsealed source with any appreciable level of activity, the area
it occupies automatically becomes an RCA and subsequently an RMA and the
no eating, drinking, smoking, chewing clause kicks in.

Dear Radsafers,

Can someone point this sealed source and X-ray machine user to the NRC
regulation or Reg Guide that prohibits eating or drinking in areas with
unsealed rad materials. Thanks!!!
