Hi and Happy Holidays to all!

Attached is my mother's orange date cake recipe. Christmas is not quite the
same without a taste of this!

2 sticks butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
4 cups flour (sifted)
1 teaspoon soda
1 1/3 cup buttermilk
1 pound dates, chopped
1 cup nuts, chopped
2 tablespoons orange rind

Cream butter and sugar. Beat until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a
time. Beat well after each addition. Dissolve soda in buttermilk. Add
alternately with flour. Toss dates and pecans in a little flour to coat
lightly. Prevents them from falling to the bottom of the cake. Add dates,
nuts and orange rind. Line tube pan with wax paper. Bake 1 1/2 hours at
325 degrees. When removed from oven stick holes in cake with ice pick.
Pour icing all over hot cake.

Icing:

2 cups sugar
1 cup orange juice (fresh)
2 Tablespoons orange rind (grated)

Beat well and pour over cake, Leave cake in pan until cold.
