CNS REASEARCH STORY
"An Alleged 'Nuclear Device' in Western Kazakhstan Is a Non-nuclear
Installation" by Gaukhar Mukhatzhanova
(http://www.cns.miis.edu/pubs/week/070223.htm)
Please visit the CNS website for a new report about recent claims by
Kazakh parliamentarian Tokhtar Aubakirov that Kazakhstan still possessed a
nuclear explosive device. His statement was made on 14 February 2007 in
the lower chamber of Kazakhstan's parliament. According to Aubakirov, a
"nuclear device" that could still be detonated had been abandoned at
Azgyr, a former nuclear test site in Western Kazakhstan, and was too large
to be transported to Russia. However, the device is actually a research
installation for high-pressure physics experiments.
