I ran across this (amusing to me) excerpt while looking for some other
info:

"A lifetime in a home at 150 Bq/m3 (the EPA action level) would raise
the lung cancer risk (if no one smoked) 1% to 2%.(18,85) Research on the
health effects of radon seem to show a reduction in cancer for moderate
doses; the rates rise steeply for exposure to a greater activity
level.(96) The reason for this is not known but is consistent with other
experience."
