John,

Yes this has been discussed extensively on RADSAFE in previous years.....

It seems to be a political question, where the USA wants to demonstrate its
independence of the "rest of the world"....

I believe that this "war of units" is rather funny. We Europeans have no
really problems with it - for instance all our joints of water- and
gas-pipes are without exceptions in inches! We have a dual system of screws
in both inches and cm. Nobody seems to be really confused by this incoherent
system....

Please do not tell me that US mechanics would not be able to handle these
differences!

Best regards,

Franz

Franz

I agree that the US should "keep up" with the rest of the world. If I
remember it correctly from when I worked at PNL (now PNNL), the DOE was
going to change in ~1998.

The US population is just a few percent of the world wide one. All over the
world everybody uses Sv and Bq. The US use already the SI units in all
scientific publications. Get used to SI units!!!

Of course, Canadians are different from Americans.
Here in the U. S. we take our radiation dose in mrem.
