The newspaper account does not specify what exactly this guy was convicted
of lying about.  It may have been a subject not directly related to the
corrosion (which no one knew about) that delayed the shutdown and the
inspection of the head which finally revealed the corrosion.  Knowing NRC
the way I do, this seems probable. "But for the nail...the kingdom was
lost."
