Subject: [ RadSafe ] Orphan Radium Source

The source shown in the attached picture was found in a private home in Pennsylvania. EPA is attempting to obatin any information they can concerning the source. It is identified as being manufactured by Victoreen. It is a model 5405 S/N 123. It is also marked on top as R34. The NRC registry does not show the source. It is believed that this source was manufactured late 50's to early 60's. The activity is not known but the nuclide is supposed to be Ra-226. If anyone has seen this type of device before, any input will be appreciated. Bob Gallagher NSSI 713 641-0391
