[ RadSafe ] Myth Busters and Irradiated Cockroaches - Jan 30

Well, we've always known this. The insects and reptiles will inherit the
world in a full scale nuclear exchange. This is a classic thought in the
Army's "Biological Effects of Nuclear Weapons" Manual, as I used in the
NBC Officers course. Any Jr. Health Physicist knows the "graded
approach" with radiation exposure or contamination and the effect it has
on a living organism. Us humans are about as "perishable" as it gets. I
guess the layperson on the street would find this interesting, that is
what the show is designed for I guess, not us rad geeks.

The comment was meant to be humorous, in reference to the previous
thread on Hormesis and "nay-sayers". Sorry if the meaning was lost.

Now, maybe I've missed out on something important about cockroaches, and
everyone know us physics majors don't hace aclue about biology, but
wouldn't a 35 year latent period be somewhat diminished in importance
for a bug with a life expectancy of a few months to a couple of years?

Must be a reallllllly long episode. Those guys tend to be rather
thorough and with a 35 year latency period before many adverse effects
present ...

Radsafers:
The Discovery Channel has posted that the "cockroach survivability
theory" episode will air January 30 at 9:00PM and then again on Jan 31
at 1:00 AM. This was announced back last October where the boys
irradiated cockroaches to see how well they'd survive nuclear war.
