This argument is frequently trotted out, and there is no doubt some merit to
it, but it is mostly reserved for use by naive liberals, I fear. Another
example is how the US and pretty much the rest of the world sat idly by
while Pol Pot murdered millions. However, I am sure you are aware that 6
million Jews, and a few million other assorted minorities were murdered
before the US decided to meddle 70 years ago (there are of course those who
doubt Jews are white). To be fair, many of the conflicts that would fall
into the category you mention are so difficult to do anything about, our
government chooses to avoid the mess.

Unfortunately, we only "meddle" in places that have white people and/or
oil. We don't seem to be "meddling" much in Darfur, nor did we meddle
in Rwanda in the 90's....

Agree -- very well said Sandy.

Regarding your statement that "The world has essentially forgotten
that," I would just say that its not the *world* that has forgotten,
just those folks who never had to live under a murderous regime - be
that Nazi Germany or the Soviet Empire or Saddam's Iraq, or
whatever.....
Please meddle, whenever possible, to get rid of such regimes !
For those who say that there are people in those countries who support
the regime -- yes that was always true, and not just for the
executioners. I don't care about them.

Saving lives, trying to stop genocide, is not meddling, it is the human
thing to do, what supposedly separates us from the rest of the animal
kingdom. The world has essentially forgotten that. History does repeat
itself. What "we" humans allow to happen every day is downright
disgusting.
If there is a "hell", then there will be a lot of company up there,
reminding me of an overcrowded refugee camp in Darfur and elsewhere.

If I could save a life, I'd meddle as much as and as often as I can. For
now, I just send lots of $$$ to the various aid groups that are there to
help. That is my small way of saying, what is happening is inhumane and
needs to stop.
