As part of NASA’s return-to-the-Moon program, scientists at NASA Langley
Research Center, Va., are developing flexible polymer materials to create
shielding against solar particle events and galactic cosmic radiation on the
lunar surface. Also, the center is working on rigid materials for shielding,
says Sheila A. Thibeault, senior research physicist at Langley’s advanced
materials and processing branch.
