Typical Duties and Responsibilities  Under close supervision conducts routine inspections of radiation producing equipment and radioactive material users to insure compliance with radiation standards set forth by SC DHEC Title A and Title B Regulations and all other state and federal regulations. This individual assists other Environmental Health Managers with other related duties.    
 Additional Duties and Responsibilities  1. Performs complex, comprehensive laboratory inspections on a quarterly basis to ensure compliance with SC DHEC regulations governing the safe usage and storage of radioactive materials. Employee will use judgment to determine if health risks exist. These inspections are to ensure that all personnel working with or around radioactive materials are properly trained and perform their duties in a way that they receive the lowest possible dose. 
2. Receives all radioactive materials for the MUSC researchers and MUHA Hospital according to SC DHEC regulations and the MUSC Radiation Safety Manual. 
3. Receives all radioactive waste from researchers and MUHA facilities and properly packages, inventories, and stores for disposal according to NRC, DOT, SC DHEC and EPA guidelines. 
4. Assists in the calibration of x-ray equipment. 
5. Assists in calibration of radiation detection devices.    
 Minimum Training and Education  A high school diploma and two years experience in environmental health programs or radiologic health. A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience. Some postions require the possession of a valid Driver's license. Some positions require the successful completion of the Industrial Hygienist Training Program or successful completion of specialized courses in health p    
 Additional Knowledge, Skill and Ability Preferred  A Bachelor's Degree in biological, physical sciences, Health Physics, or engineering. An Associate Degree in the physical sciences, biological sciences, engineering, nuclear medicine or radiological technology and one year of experience in radiological health. Certification in HAZWOPER or certification eligible, DOT certification or certification eligible.  Some experience in radiation safety field prefered.
