Many people make a good living protecting the public from such perceived risks as low-dose radiation exposure, global warming, dioxins, power transmission lines, DDT,cellphones, etc., etc. From a business standpoint, it makes little difference whether the risk is genuine, or not. When you disparage, or make fun of imaginary threats, you may be posing a threat to somebody's income. It has been said that a bureaucrat can be more protective of his funding sources than a mother bear for her cubs. If one is being funded to protect the public against bogeymen, it is not likely they will reveal that there is no such thing. If the EPA declares that carbon dioxide is a problem, it is a problem. Any discussion of the scientific facts can only confuse the matter.
Merry Christmas
