I like the line: "In one case, Alcan Recycling of Shelbyville, Tenn.,
inadvertently melted material containing the isotope Thorium, which can
be used as nuclear-reactor fuel, into a batch of aluminum in 1991,
according to Yusko's barebones report."

Thorium can, in theory, be used as a reactor fuel, though I am not aware
of any actual reactors currently using thorium.  A much more likely
source was welding rods.  Yet another example of the a reporter whose
research didn't include reading all of the Wikipedia article.

I do acknowledge, however, that the other incident in that paragraph, in
which a Cs137 source got melted, can ruin your day.
