Doug,
If one goes to the ANSI website store to order a standard that is within the control of another entity, such as HPS being that ASC for N13 and N43, then there is a note that states that. This is not uncommon to have various organizations being responsible for developing, revising, affirming or terminating a standard. All standards within the ANSI framework receive final approval from ANSI. In the case of N13 and N43, once the standard is approved by the specific N13 or N43 Committee, the formal submittal is sent to ANSI for approval. Once this is approved, we publish the standard for free download to HPS members, and purchasing by all not HPS members. HPS standards are significantly less cost that you will find for other standards, such as N42, etc.
Regards,
Sandy

Andy:
This does not make a lot of sense! If it is to be an ANSI standard, then it
should be available through (and promoted by) ANSI.
I am sure that many Oil & Gas companies regularly ensure they are up to date
with ANSI standards but, unfortunately, they are probably not even aware of
the existence of HPS.....
Regards
Doug

The Health Physics Society is secretariat to two Accredited Standards
Committees (ASCs)- N13 and N43. The two ASCs, along with the HPS Standards
Committee (HPSSC) and the HPS Standards Coordinator, constitute the HPS
standards organization. All of the Standards N13 and N43 Standards developed
and published by HPS will only be available from HPS.

Sandy

ANSI/HPS N13.53 Control and Release of Technologically Enhanced Naturally
Occurring Radioactive Material, was just published to the HPS web site
within the last week or so.
It is now available to HPS members from the members only section of the HPS
website. It should be available soon from the ANSI web site, but hasn't
shown up there yet.

Not if it's done correctly. Examples were it still isn't are the mining
industry (not just U-mines, but all mines. ) and the oil and gas industry
(i.e TENORM). Perhaps if the finally approved ANSI/HPS N13.13 is used this
will get "better"
