The Florida Chapter HPS had a presentation from someone that works in
the lightning test facility at KSC...

Although he may have erroneous used the term 'gamma' radiation (during the presentation) , 
there is quite a bit of evidence that a lightning bolt generates some form of
very hi energy (i.e., 8 to 10 MeV) photon radiation.
