[ RadSafe ] The crack at Fukushima

The description of the 'crack' in the shaft on all the sources I have  
accessed is frustrating.  One dimension is given - 8 inches (20  cm) - so which 
is it 8 inches long or 8 inches wide or both?  Hard to get  an estimate of 
the amount of water "spewing" (favorite word of media) from the  crack 
without knowing both.  Do even reporters for technical sites not  think about the 
completeness of what they report?
