> Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute (LRRI) is seeking a Senior Health Physicist/Radiation Safety Officer who will provide technical and managerial expertise necessary to run the entirety of the LRRI Radiation Protection Program. Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering or a directly related physical science degree.  Master of Science in Health Physics preferred as is certification by the American Board of Health Physicists.  Minimum of two (2) years experience running a health physics program. Must have comprehensive knowledge of radioactive waste management. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
> The Health Physicist/RSO shall have training in the following subjects:
> ·         Radiation protection principles;
> ·         Characteristics of ionizing radiation;
> ·         Units of radiation dose and quantities;
> ·         Internal vs. external exposure;
> ·         ALARA concept;
> ·         Radioactivity and radioactive decay;
> ·         Radiation detection instruments;
> ·         Interaction of radiation with matter;
> ·         Biological hazards of exposure to radiation;
> ·         Radiation detection using radiation detection equipment and personnel dosimeters
> ·         NRC regulatory requirements and standards;
> ·         Hands-on use of radioactive materials;

> Successful completion of a post offer pre-employment physical examination may be required.    Successful completion of CDC/DOJ, DOD approval to access Select Agent(s) and Toxin(s) may be required. ABSL3 work environment may require vaccinations/immunizations as a condition of employment.
