[ RadSafe ] Reporter's question about lower limits of detection

All,
It appears to me that the discussion has slipped some distance from the original question asked by the reporter. We all know of methods that can be used to determine quantative and qualitative results. Qualitative results being somewhat more difficult to achieve we might ask ourselves "How close do I need to be" and based on the question develop the approach.
 
I'm wondering what the reporter now thinks of the direction that the question has taken in the recent discussions.
