This is not intended as a critique of this paper, but the paper reminded me of a question I wanted to ask. Essentially all surveys that I have seen of the contamination dispersed from this accident have shown a narrow plume going off to the northwest from the reactor site. Evidence of this plume can be seen in figure 2 of Chris' paper.
