Thanks everyone for all of your help and suggestions. The problem has
been solved. :)

I found someone who helped me unlock and reprogram the unit.

Once it was unlocked, it behaved just as described below...

Dan,

We have a number of these units, and software is not required to turn
the units on or off. Before going through this, you should make certain
that the battery in the unit is fresh (1.5 volt, size AA).

To turn the unit on: Continuously hold down the front membrane button
with your finger until the word "On" appears in the unit's window, at
which point you want to remove your finger from the membrane button.
The word "On" remains in the window for approximately ten seconds,
followed by the H(gamma) reading in mrem (or whatever the original
programming is set up to display, e.g., dose rate in mrem/hr or
accumulated dose in mrem). The unit is now "on" (measuring ionizing
radiation).

To turn the unit Off, the procedure is somewhat similar: Hold down the
front membrane button with your finger until the word "On" appears in
the window, at which point you want to remove your finger, then give the
membrane button two successive quick pushes. The word "Off" appears,
when select "Off" by giving the membrane button two successive quick
pushes.

Most of the dose readings can also be changed manually, however this is
a bit more complicated. I recommend you obtain the manual.

Hope this helps!

Correction: It's a Thermo EPD Mk2. (was originally manufactured by
Siemens but now by Thermo)

Question is the same - does anyone know how to get this unit unstuck
from the "OFF" mode? :)

Thanks

Subject: Siemens EPD Mk2 dosimeter software?

Hi All,

Does anybody happen to have the software needed to configure a Siemens
EPD Mk2 dosimeter? I just picked up a used unit, but it is stuck in
the "OFF" mode and apparently it can only be unlocked with the
provisioning software.

It looks like it communicates to a PC via IR.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks
-Dan
