Hello all,

The Pennsylvania State University Department of Environmental Health and Safety seeks a highly motivated, energetic individual with excellent communications skills to join our radiation safety team.  This individual will assist in implementing the University's radiation safety program that includes radioactive materials, x-ray producing equipment, and a research reactor to ensure safety of employees, students, contractors, and the public in compliance with state and federal regulations.  Activities may include preparing license applications and reports for state and federal agencies, reviewing requests to use radioactive material, developing and presenting training programs, performing radiological dose assessments, and assisting with or directing any emergency operations involving radioactive materials.  The individual may manage the University's radiation instrumentation calibration program to ensure personnel safety and compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements, including developing and maintaining procedures, calibration, testing, maintenance, and documentation for compliance, and follow-up including correcting any deficiencies.  This individual will provide support to laboratories using radioactive materials by conducting audits and all other Health Physics activities required to support a research community.  This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree plus three years of work related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. he successful candidate must have the ability to communicate technical issues to highly educated personnel, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidates must be able to pass and maintain the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Trustworthy and Reliability requirements and possess a valid driver's license.
