ASSOCIATE RADIOLOGICAL HEALTH SPECIALIST

The NYS Department of Health’s Center for Environmental Health, is seeking
to fill a position in the Metropolitan Area Regional Office location to be
responsible for the conduct of inspections of facilities using radioactive
materials and the determination of compliance with the State Sanitary Code
requirements. This work includes evaluating facilities and equipment,
interviewing personnel, reviewing records and other documents related to
radiation safety, communicating inspection findings orally, and developing
written inspection reports and letters. The incumbent will review
applications for licenses for the use of radioactive materials; evaluate
information from applicants to ensure compliance with regulatory
requirements; communicate deficiencies to the applicants; and make
recommendations concerning issuance of licenses.  The position may also
assist in the assessment of contaminated sites; take environmental samples
and review decommissioning plans and reports; and assist in responding to
radiological incidents/accidents at anytime.


Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree or higher in health physics,
engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, geology, or hydrology, or any
bachelor's degree or higher including or supplemented by 30 college
semester credit hours in one or more of these fields AND three years
additional experience in radiation protection which would include
experience in dealing with radioactive materials or radiation producing
equipment.  Experience limited to imaging of patients is NOT considered
qualifying.  Substitution:  A graduate degree in health physics may be
substituted for the required work experience as follows:  Masters degree
equals one year of experience or a Doctoral degree equals two years of
experience.

submit a copy of your college transcript.  Range: $66,375 to $83,954. This
position will be filled provisionally pending examination for permanent
appointment. IMPORTANT: This position involves exposure to ionizing
radiation and incumbents may be required to wear personal protective
