Hi Everyone,

An FYI or those who have responsibility or interest in Laser Safety:

The Dept. of Energy is hosting their annual DOE LSO Workshop in Boulder, CO, Sep 10-12, 2013. The workshop is sponsored by the DOE, but is open to anyone working with lasers or involved in laser safety. There is a fairly broad attendance from Gov't, Academia, Military, and Industry. There were over 150 persons at the last workshop at the Stanford Linear Accelerator. This year the host is NIST.

The workshop is focused on laser safety principals and practical applications. There are usually several sessions touching on upcoming standards, new technology challenges, and the latest bio-effects research.

Social functions, vendor exhibits, and a tour of the NIST facility in Boulder are all part of the program. An additional tour of the National Center for Atmospheric Research is also planned.

Here is the webpage, the presentation information is not yet complete.

Past workshop pages, abstracts, presentation slides can be found here:

Credits towards certification maintenance have been accepted in the past, and they expect to have that same approval this year. The 2012 Workshop CEU statement:
"Certification Maintenance points: BLS is awarding 2.5 CM points, and AAHP is awarding 21 CEC for Workshop attendance. ABIH has previously awarded CM credit for this event and the current event contains 16 hours which can be claimed for CM credit."

The organizers are also currently soliciting abstracts for presentations, if someone would like to share their laser safety knowledge.

The registration fee is only $150. I have personally enjoyed attending these workshops. If you have any questions, please email me directly, unless you feel the question is universal for the group.
