David Suzuki has issued a scary warning about Japan's Fukushima nuclear
plant, saying that if it falls in a future earthquake, it's "bye bye
Japan" and the entire west coast of North America should be evacuated.

It would be interesting to see estimates of what the death toll of
evacuating "the entire west coast of North America" would be. Probably
hundreds of thousands in the panic that would leave much of the
population of California in the desert when their gas runs out. Many
more when they can't get the medicine they need to stay alive. Of
course, the world-wide economic collapse that the loss of the commerce
and resources of the West Coast would cause would kill millions, maybe
more.
But at least they would be spared being exposed to levels of radiation
that might with difficulty be picked out from background. Maybe.
