P.S.  I should have mentioned, in my earlier posting, that one can
also use a scaler very effectively as a ratemeter, on the 0.1 minute
preset (assuming that it has one which is easily accessible).  This
saves a great deal of time and bother, and is more accurate, versus
reading the output of a traditional analog meter.

The scintillation probe is more sensitive.  We have in the past uses a
"Fiddler Probe" to help us locate 'natural' background and above.  It
was a 5" x 1/2" NaCl Cyrstal with a beryllium window.  It was
successful in locating Uranium ore and Tailings.
