[ RadSafe ] LA County is Hiring for two (2) positions

We are looking to hire two (2) Principal Radiation Protection Specialists (PRPS). One will be focused on Emergency Response (ER) and the other will be used to support our Secure the Cities program (STC). Both positions are full time and have a salary range of $71k to $93k. (See job posting for actual salary)
Here are some brief explanations of the duties involved:

Job #1:    Principal Radiation Protection Specialist/Emergency Response

Responsible for assuring that Los Angeles County is capable of providing an adequate and comprehensive response to a terrorist radiological event by assuring proper training of first responders, and assuring appropriate equipment availability.

Example Duties:

  *   Responds to radiological emergency incidents, and acts as lead radiological responder to other first responders.
  *   Acts as the Radiation Safety Officer at a radiological emergency incident.
  *   Provides advice to the Head and other County Management during a radiological terrorist event on necessary actions, including evacuations.
  *   Tracks and records activities, including those affecting financial reimbursement, during a radiological terrorist event.

  *   Provides training to Radiation Management in safe and appropriate responses to a terrorist radiological event.
  *   Prepares, and updates as appropriate, a written procedure manual for Radiation Management staff on appropriate response to a radiological terrorist event.
  *   Evaluates equipment and supplies, makes recommendations to the Head on necessary equipment and supply purchases, prepares requisitions, and assures acquisition of the necessary equipment and supplies.
  *   Monitors and performs the periodic testing of Radiation Management's respirator program and equipment.
  *   Acts as Radiation Management's liaison on terrorist response issues with the State and federal agencies, including FEMA, DOE, NRC, FDA, and EPA.
  *   Assists other first responders, such as police, fire, and port safety departments, in preparing a comprehensive and uniform emergency response action plan that integrates the activities of all first responders, including Radiation Management's first responders.
  *   Provides advice to other first responders, such as police, fire, and port safety departments, on appropriate equipment for them to purchase, assuring that equipment can be integrated into a comprehensive response plan for Los Angeles County.
  *   Provides technical expertise and guidance on mitigation efforts, after a radiological terrorist event. Provides oversight of such decontamination activities.
  *   Provides consultation and training to the public, physicians, and nuclear personnel on proper practices, procedures, and legal requirements in the use of radioactive materials and radiation safety.
  *   Attends professional meetings to keep informed on developments in radiation safety and responding to a radiological terrorist event.
  *   Performs special projects as directed by the Head.




Job #2:    Principal Radiation Protection Specialist/Secure the Cities

Responsible for assuring that Los Angeles County and the Secure the Cities program is capable of providing an adequate and comprehensive preventive radiation and nuclear detection to a radiological treat by assuring calibration of equipment and proper training of first responders.

Examples of Duties:

  *   Calibration of Personal Radiation Detectors for the Secure the Cities Program
  *   Provides secondary screening assistance to primary radiation screeners, in the event they are unable to adjudicate the detection of elevated radiation.
  *   Responds to radiological emergency incidents.
  *   Assists in the tracking of calibrated Personal Radiation Detectors
  *   Supports the radioactive material license for training of 1st responders

  *   Provides training to Radiation Management in safe and appropriate responses to a terrorist radiological event.
  *   Prepares, and updates as appropriate, a written procedure manual for Radiation Management staff on calibration of equipment.
  *   Attends Secure the Cities meetings and keeps the Head of Radiation Management informed as to commitments and exercises.
  *   Evaluates equipment and supplies, makes recommendations to the Head on necessary equipment and supply purchases, prepares requisitions, and assures acquisition of the necessary equipment and supplies.
  *   Acts as Radiation Management's liaison on terrorist response issues with local law enforcement agencies.
  *   Acts as Radiation Management's liaison to the County's Emergency Operations Center.
  *   Assists other first responders, such as police, fire, and port safety departments, in preparing a comprehensive and uniform emergency response action plan that integrates the activities of all first responders, including Radiation Management's first responders.
  *   Provides advice to other first responders, such as police, fire, and port safety departments, on appropriate equipment for them to purchase, assuring that equipment can be integrated into a comprehensive response plan for Los Angeles County.
