[ RadSafe ] Space Radiation Devastated the Lives of Apollo Astronauts

Not only is the sample tiny, the cohort is unique in many characteristics.  Many of them spent years as test pilots prior to becoming astronauts. Also they were exposed to extended periods of weightlessness, as well as to high g-forces. The mental and physical stress these guys went through during their lives was enormous.  How are all these factors controlled for in order to arrive at radiation as the cause?
