--These comparisons are between accident risks from other
industries and occupational disease risks from the nuclear industry. I
have published a paper on this subject, Perspective on occupational
mortality risks, Health Physics 40: 703-724;1981. The final conclusion is
that the loss of life expectancy to a radiation worker from radiation
induced cancer (assuming LNT) is 12 days, while the average American
worker loses 500 days of life expectancy due to occupational disease.
