200th Meeting of the Savannah River Chapter

The Savannah River Chapter of the Health Physics Society will be
celebrating it's 200th meeting on Saturday March 4, 2000 at the Sheraton
Augusta in Augusta, Georgia. National Health Physics Society
President-Elect Dr. Paul Rohwer will be the featured speaker. The evening
will begin with a social period at 6:00pm followed by dinner of chicken or
prime rib at 6:45pm. To honor this historic occasion, photos of memorable
moments throughout the history of the chapter will be on display as well as
documents and other memorabilia from the chapter and national Health
Physics Society. The meeting will also provide an opportunity to recognize
key contributors to the chapter, many of whom were also important
contributors to the national Health Physics Society. To remember the event
we will be taking pictures of those present grouped by the decade in which
they joined the chapter. The meeting will conclude with Dr. Rohwer's
presentation on "The Health Physics Society - Who We Are and What We Are
Doing" which will provide information about the Health Physics Society and
its function.
He will also address the Society's current plans and activities, as well
as the responsibilities assigned to the Board of Directors.

The Savannah River Chapter was founded on February 7, 1956 at an
organizational meeting of health physicists associated with the Savannah
River Plant and was later chartered as an official chapter of the Health
Physics Society in 1959. To celebrate the chapter's national Health
Physics Society affiliation, Dr. Elda Anderson visited the chapter in 1960
and presented the official charter to the chapter members. Chapter
membership has continued to be strong over the 40+ years of existence with
typically between 80 and 150 members each year.

Cost for the meeting will be $20 or $25 depending on the dinner item
selected between chicken and prime rib. To make reservations for the 200th
meeting or for further information, please contact Kent Rosenberger at
