RE: Dosimetry Wearers In Canada

Eric,

Thanks for helping me with this. I am wondering if there is a class of wearers
that is not required to use a dosimeter accredited under AECB Regulatory
Standard S-106(E). We are in the process of gaining accreditation, and would
like to explore the possibility of issuing dosimetry to wearers not covered by
the Standard in the mean time. We at ICN provide dosimetry to all classes of
users, from Dentists to Chiropractors, to you name it. Some are expected to
receive a dose and many are not, but like to know if they did.

What requirements are there in your Province for Dosimetry Providers to non-AECB
licensees? If I am not mistaken, this would be the case for most Dentists,
Chiropractors, or Veterinarians. I would also appreciate any information you
may have about other Provinces.

I checked out the NDR web site. They are accredited under the S-106 Standard,
or at least Grandfathered in. I couldn't find many details on regulatory
requirements though.

Thanks,

Rob

The majority (but not all) of dosimeter wearing workers in Canada are
montitored by the National Dosimetry Service, a Health Canada operation.
They have a web site with much information:

http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/nds

Not all wearers are associated with AECB licensees, and there is other
legislation that requires certain workers to wear dosimeters. For example,
the Manitoba x-ray safety regulation requires that the users of x-ray
machines in the province be badged.

Greetings all,

I would like to know the classifications of dosimetry wearers in Canada and
how
this relates to regulatory requirements.

Are all dosimetry wearers in Canada associated with AECB licensees? Is
there
another governing body (or lack thereof)?

Thanks for any assistance,

Yours,

Rob Gunter
