Description: Texas A&M University invites applications for the
position of Assistant Director/Radiation Safety Officer within the
University's Environmental Health and Safety Department. This position
is responsible for directing and supervising one or more programs or
functional units, to include the radiation safety program. The Texas
A&M Radiation Safety Program includes a large academic broad-scope
license, several small specific licenses, registration of nearly 100
radiation-producing devices and 150 medium- and high-power lasers.
Duties will include establishing radiation safety program direction,
promoting safety and maintaining regulatory compliance; ensuring
achievement of program goals; assisting with departmental budgets;
preparing radiation safety program budgets and maintaining budgetary
controls; representing the radiation safety program and leading the
University in state and national issues; planning and developing
operational health and safety procedures and processes; analyzing
legislative bills and other regulatory activity to determine impact.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should hold at least an M.S. in health
physics or related field and have ten years of experience in radiation
safety, including five years in a supervisory role. Certification in
Health Physics or a Licensed Medical Physicist is required. The
applicant must have excellent computer, verbal, and communication
skills and be able to work effectively with faculty, staff, and
students as well as regulatory agency representatives. To apply,
