MITO -- The Japan Nuclear Cycle Development Insititute on Wednesday started
transferring residual uranium solution stored at a JCO Co.'s nuclear plant
in Tokaimura, Ibaraki Prefecture--the site of last year's nuclear
criticality accident--to the institute's reprocessing plant in the same
village to remove fission products from the solution.

The solution was collected from a sedimentation tank at JCO's
uranium-processing facility late last year following September's criticality
accident and was temporarily stored in 20 stainless steel bottles in an
earthquake-resistant container at the facility.
