insect-control expert
WASHINGTON-Edward F.
Knipling, who helped develop the
radiation method of sterilizing
insects harmful to plants, animals
and humans, died of cancer Friday
at his home in suburban Arlington,
Va. [Virginia, USA] He was 91.
Mr. Knipling's work was praised
as an efficient, pesticide-free way
in insect control and has been
credited with eliminating the
screwworm fly in North America
and with it a threat to the
livestock industry.
