Radiation Cell/Remote Operations

Southwest Research is replacing the zinc-bromide filled window in one of the
High-Level Radiation Effects Facility's cells.

I was wondering if anyone has had experience with using ONLY cameras (I know
radiation-hardened) to perform all Hot-Cell operations. Our operations include
remote manipulations for removing and replacing small screws and roll-pins,
handling sealed sources to read the serial number, and (up to) moving 6,000
pound casks with an in-cell overhead crane.

Is there a similar facility with someone there that can discuss the
feasibility of using ONLY cameras (no leaded-glass window at all) to do such
operations? Please call me direct, since almost no one else on Radsafe would
have a similar question.

Thanks, John P. Hageman, CHP, Radiation Safety Officer, Southwest Research
