S Africa Approves Study Into Nuclear Power Project, Paper Says

Johannesburg, April 14 (Bloomberg) - South Africa's government gave
state-owned power company Eskom the green light to proceed with a
feasibility study into the construction of modular nuclear power
reactors which could be exported, Business Report said without citing
a source. Eskom wants to own 30 percent of the project to design
nuclear power generators based on exportable pre- fabricated
components. The feasibility study will cost about 432- million rand
($66.5 million), the paper said.

Eskom said its net profit fell 12 percent last year, hurt by a
sluggish domestic economy, low prices and a charge for employee
severance packages.
