Taiwan to Decide on Nuclear Plant in 4 Months, Paper Says

Taipei, May 8 (Bloomberg) -- Taiwan's government will make a final
decision on the fate of a planned nuclear power plant in about four
months, following the setup and study of an evaluation committee, the
China Times reported, citing Economic Affairs Minister-designate Lin
Hsin-yi. The committee will likely include representatives from the
Council of Economic Planning and Development, the Environmental
Protection Administration, the Atomic Energy Council, local
government authorities, scholars and citizens. The committee will
evaluate factors including the societal costs, atomic energy policy,
industrial development needs, waste disposal, environmental impact,
and costs of scrapping the project, the paper said.

President-elect Chen Shui-bian generally opposes nuclear power and
has pledged to halt future plants, but hasn't ruled out finishing
construction of the No.4 plant that has already been started.
