Position Announcements



HEALTH PHYSICIST POSITIONS - Two positions for health physicists are open
at the University of Washington.  These positions will be responsible for
providing services to a wide variety of research, academic, and medical
programs.  Both positions require a broad base of knowledge in radiation
safety and familiarity with state and federal regulations.

The University of Washington is a large, broad scope licensee located in
Seattle, WA.  The campus setting is unusually beautiful, and the Seattle
location affords many opportunities for recreation in the nearby Cascade
Mountain Range and Puget Sound areas.

Health Physicist 1 - The Health Physicist 1 position is responsible for
working with investigators to assure compliance with radiation safety in
research applications (chiefly biomedical).  Primary responsibilities
include: authorizing investigators to use radioactive materials and making
amendments to those authorizations under the University's Type A License
of Broad scope; compliance inspection of laboratories; providing guidance
for research proposals involving radiation use; and radiation protection
training.  Minimum qualifications are a Bachelor's Degree in science and
engineering and two years of experience in a radiation safety program, or
a Master's Degree in radiological sciences or equivalent.  The salary
range is $33,500 to $42,900 per year.

Health Physicist 2 - The Health Physicist 2 position is a higher level
position requiring additional experience in radiation safety.  The primary
responsibility of this position is the implementation of programs to
reflect changes in regulations or program emphasis.  Familiarity with
non-ionizing radiation is desirable.  Additional responsibilities include
personnel dosimetry, dose evaluation, radiation protection training,
radiological emergency response, development and review of health physics
procedures, and quality management.  Minimum qualifications are a
Bachelor's Degree in science or engineering and three years of
professional experience in a radiation safety program, or a Master's
Degree in radiological sciences and one year of professional experience in
a radiation safety program.  The salary range is $37,000 to $47,375 per
year.
