Citizen Advisory Council membership openings for Ohio URSB



It's that time of year when I post this on the list once again.  If you are an Ohio resident and are interested in serving on a volunteer council please respond to me privately.   Or, if know someone who would qualify for any of these poisitions, please forward this to them.  I will answer any questions you send.



Citizens Advisory Council Calls for Membership Applications

	The Utility Radiological Safety Board (URSB) Citizens Advisory Council is seeking applications for membership for two-year terms starting July 1, 2000.

	The URSB's member agencies include: Ohio EPA, Ohio Department of Agriculture, Ohio Department of Health, Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, Ohio Emergency Management Agency and Ohio Department of Commerce.  Founded in 1989, the purpose of URSB is to develop a comprehensive policy for Ohio regarding nuclear power safety.  Its objectives include promoting safe, reliable and economical power and recommending policies and practices that promote emergency preparedness.  

	The Citizens Advisory Council (CAC) meets at least four times per year, and studies nuclear safety issues of public interest ranging from the storage of spent nuclear fuel to primary alerting systems.  They report their findings and recommendations to URSB for further action.   Most members serve staggered two-year terms.  Applicants should be interested in nuclear safety issues.  

	CAC is seeking applicants to fill the following specific positions:

 	a citizen from the Perry Nuclear Power Plant Evacuation Planning Zone (living within 10 miles of the plant near Perry, Ohio) with an interest in nuclear power issues;

	a citizen from the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station Evacuation Planning Zone (living within 10 miles of the plant near Port Clinton, Ohio.) with an interest in nuclear power issues;

	a citizen from the Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station Evacuation Planning Zone (living within 10 miles of the plant near East Liverpool, Ohio.) with an interest in nuclear power issues;

 	a citizen at large with an interest in nuclear power issues, not representing any of the other categories;

 	a local elected official from a political jurisdiction involved in emergency planning for the Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station;

 	a local elected official from a political jurisdiction involved in emergency planning for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station;

 	a representative familiar with radiation issues from an environmental organization;

	a representative from a school district within fifty miles of a nuclear power plant.

	a representative familiar with radiation issues from non-power nuclear industry;

	a representative familiar with emergency planning issues from a county affected by the Evacuation Planning Zone.

	a representative familiar with emergency planning issues from a County Health Department affected by the Evacuation Planning Zone.

 	a Health Physicist;

 	a representative familiar with radiation issues from an independent research organization.

 	a representative from a nuclear engineering program at an institution of higher education in Ohio; and

 	two student representatives attending an Ohio college or university with a background including one or more of:  environmental science, physical science, law, political science, engineering, nuclear power, or life sciences.	

	To apply for CAC membership, submit a letter of interest that indicates the position(s) you would like, and a brief description of your qualifications, such as in a resume.
