Re: Use of OSL Dosimeters for Environmental Monitoring

The 12th International Intercomparison of Environmental Dosimeters study is
"designed to compare a field performance test that is being proposed in
American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Draft N13.29 with the
traditional testing protocol that has been used in this intercomparison
program."

Landauer (specific reference used as an example only) already has an
environmental dosimeter that probably can meet or exceed the requirements
of Draft ANSI N13.29 (this should be verified). The question remains
whether the Luxel dosimeter can meet N13.29 requirements. It may be a
little to difficult to defend the use of a dosimeter for environmental
monitoring that cannot meet such a standard if another is available that
does. I would expect that when this standard is finalized, a contract for
environmental dosimetry would stipulate that the dosimeter meet or exceed
N13.29 requirements (especially if some providers are advertising as such).

Opinions expressed are mine and do not reflect official policies or
positions of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

Chris,

My advice is to get the results of the last 11th International
Intercomparison of Environmental Dosimeters. If my memory serves, a myriad
of dosimeter types participated. Try first, www.eml.doe.gov. There is
info on the upcoming 12th intercomparison.  There are listed the contacts;
Gladys and Matt. If there are no links to the 11th intercomparison data,
they may be able to provide you with a summary of the results from previous
runs.
