Re:Uranium and fetal exposure

I cannot say what levels of a radionuclide in maternal blood will pose a
"hazard" to an embryo/fetus, however, limiting the embryo/fetus dose equivalent
to 500 mrem/gestation period (at a uniform rate) is the regulatory limit and
therefore may be considered "safe" for all practical purposes.

Refer to NUREG/CR-5631 and Reg Guide 8.36 for embryo/fetus dose determination
assistance.

Because uranium is an alpha emitter and has dose factors contained within Reg.
Guide 8.36, I would guess that a certain amount crosses the placental barrier.

At what ingestion levels does uranium pose a hazard to an embryo/fetus? Does
uranuium cross the placental barrier?
