Carolina Power and Light has a opening for a Health Physics professional
Summary description, requirements, duties and responsibilities:
A BS degree in a physical science; knowledge of dosimetry and health physics
precedents; effective oral and written communication skills are essential in
preparing letters, reports, and procedures, giving presentations, providing
instruction and interfacing with auditors and regulators on radiological
safety matters. Five to seven years of nuclear related experience is
required. A degree in Health Physics/ Radiological Health and Health Physics
Certification with experience in dosimetry is preferred. The primary
responsibilities of the position include: 1) evaluating new or revised
regulations and standards and technological advancement for impact of the
dosimetry program; 2) assisting in the developing new or revised dosimetry
procedures and methods; 3) performing or assisting in conducting special
dosimetric studies and analysis; 4) assisting in developing and implementing
training programs for HEEC and plant dosimetry personnel; 5) providing
technical support in the design, installation, calibration, operation and
maintenance of dosimetry equipment and instrumentation; 6) interpreting
internal and external dosimetry monitoring results and preparing dose or
dose commitment estimates; 7) assisting in maintaining an effective
personnel exposure record keeping and reporting system; 8) maintaining
proficiency in state-of-the-art dosimetry techniques and applying this
knowledge to improve the dosimetry program; 9) assisting in assuring the
CP&L dosimetry program meets National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation
Program (NVLAP) requirements; 10) providing radiological safety technical
assistance to nuclear facilities during outage and emergency planning
activities; 11) providing radiological safety support for CP&L?s Agreement
State licensed activities. The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain
nuclear plant access
