Wanted: Junior Health Physicist

An expanding, San Diego based, health and safety firm is looking for a junior health physicist with a B.S. or M.S. in Health Physics and 1 - 2 years experience in a research or laboratory setting.  Strong writing, communication, and training skills are mandatory.  Furthermore, the applicants must be able to work independently in a productive small business environment. We want individuals with an entrepreneurial spirit. Applicants must also be proficient using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.  Most importantly, we are looking for individuals with a strong desire to advance their careers in Health Physics and Industrial Hygiene. The successful candidates for this position will gain valuable experience and skills under the supervision of senior health physicists and certified industrial hygienists.

Occupational Services, Inc. (OSI) is an expanding health and safety consulting company located in San Diego, CA.  Established in 1988, OSI provides radiation safety, industrial hygiene, laboratory safety, and environmental compliance services to biotechnology companies, research laboratories, hospitals, and manufacturing facilities throughout San Diego County. 

 Position Description:

 The successful candidates will provide services in the areas of radiation safety, chemical safety, laboratory safety, and biological safety.  More specifically, the candidates will:

 -          Calibrate radiation detection instruments (25-50% of workload)

-          Complete fume hood and iodination hood surveys

-          Conduct monthly radiation contamination surveys

-          Review written radiation safety programs and amend radioactive materials licenses

-          Apply for new radioactive materials licenses

-          Conduct clearance surveys

-          Deliver radiation safety training courses

-          Act as a liaison during regulatory inspections

-          Inspect facilities for radiation safety compliance

-          Survey and release fully decayed radioactive waste and arrange for the disposal of radioactive waste
