Re: Toothfairy strikes again....

Asthma ??  What about all those leaves falling off the trees?  There's got to be a relationship there, too.  OBTW, Hartford, CT health officials earlier this month declared an asthma emergency in their city because of its high incidence rate among city children.

Haddam Neck and Millstone have released 32.6
curies of radioactive emissions since 1970 --
the third highest release among all U.S. nuclear
plants. This total far exceeds the 14.2 curies
that were released during the 1979 Three Mile
              Island accident.

The releases from TMI were on the order of 20 million curies with no significant adverse health effects.

In the winter of 1995-'96, the
Nuclear Regulatory Commission shut down all
three Millstone reactors due to safety
violations. While Unit 1 was closed
permanently, the other two reactors were
              brought back online after extensive
              improvements were made.
The shutdown order was a result of management issues and design document control, NOT radioactive releases.

But the damage was
already done. Thyroid cancer, which is known
to be caused by exposure to radioactive iodine,
reached significantly high levels in New
London, near Millstone, in the late 1980s and
early '90s before the plant was shut down.
Where'd the iodine come from?

I guess we here at Millstone must be responsible for every one of society's woes except defective tires.
