Re: Worse case vs. normal operations
When we plan the proteccion it is necessary to take into consideration the
dose constraint, which serves as a bound in the optimization. For
occupational exposures, is a value of individual dose limited the range of
options considered in the process of optimization. For public exposure, the
dose constraint is an upper bound on the annual doses that members of the
public should receive from the planned operation of any controlled source.
The dose constraint for each source is intended to ensure that the sum of
doses to the critical group from all controlled source remains within the
dose limit. Let's give an example: A nursey non occupational worker in a
nuclear medicine facility (unsealed and sealed sources treatment), and
living in a area close to a nuclear power plant. She as Member of the public
can be submited a two diferent sources of radiation, and the sum of both
can't be higher than 1 mSv per year.
