Wyeth-Ayerst Research is looking for a Radiation Safety Specialist to provide technical assistance for daily radiation safety program activities at our Monmouth Junction, NJ research facility.  These activities include, but are not limited to, isotope ordering, package check-in and shipment off-site, dosimeter management, laboratory audits, reports, decontamination, source leak-testing, materials inventory, survey meter calibration, waste management, database maintenance, bioassay sample preparation and other duties assigned by the RSO.  The incumbent performs surveys for radiation fields and removable contamination using appropriate calibrated instrumentation as specified in standard operating procedures (SOPs).  The successful applicant will assist the RSO with radiation safety training, writing SOPs, and screening new applications to use radiation.  
 
A BS Degree in health physics, industrial hygiene, physics, chemistry or biology with 2-3 years experience performing radiation safety current good practices under a USNRC or Agreement State (or similar) broad-scope radioactive materials license is required.  Certification by the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists is desirable.  Experience with the use of open and sealed radioactive materials, radiation measuring instrumentation, radioactive waste management and radiation safety/health physics in a research environment is necessary. Computer experience (MS Office, etc.) and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
