I have used Wallac counters since about 1980 and never had a problem with
service. I do not know about the service system in the USA, but I would
recommend to contact the headquarters in Finland, if service in the USA does
not work. I would never touch or let somebody touch whatever instrument to
repair it, except the company which sold it.
