Position Title: Health Physicist / Assistant Radiation Safety Officer
Location : Charleston, West Virginia
Position Description: This position will assist the Radiation Safety 
Officer (a physician) in the implementation and maintenance of the 
Charleston Area Medical Center's medical use and nuclear pharmacy licenses. 
 This position also includes performing HP services for two community 
hospitals as well as several private nuclear medicine physician offices.

Duties of this position:
* Establish and implement policies and procedures for the use of radiation 
and radioactive materials and act as liaison with federal, state and local 
regulatory agencies.
* Develops and implements training programs, conducts classes, seminars 
and/or workshops relating to radiation protection and the safe and handling 
of radiation and radioactive material.
* Analyze and maintain external/internal personnel monitoring program and 
records.
* Perform annual testing on medical imaging equipment (diagnostic x-ray 
machines, mammography, CT, etc.) and calibration of equipment (dose 
calibrators, counters, survey meters, etc.).
* Maintain NRC licenses, including drafting amendments, renewals, etc. 
 CAMC possesses two NRC licenses, one for medical use and another for 
medical distribution.
* Perform periodic inspections of facilities and areas where radiation 
and/or radioactive materials are used, identifying problems/hazards, 
initiating/recommending corrective actions, and verifying implementation of 
corrective actions.
* Assist the Radiation Safety Committee as an integral member and resource 
to the staff.

This position requires the ability to recognize radiological hazards and to 
implement corrective actions.  The health physicist will have contact with 
a variety of personnel within the medical setting.  The ability to 
prioritize a heavy workload to meet departmental and regulatory guidelines 
while delivering the highest degree of customer service is also required. 
The position will perform analyses, calculations and evaluations to assess 
dose, exposure and/or risk to workers and members of the general public 
from radiation.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Health Physics and three years of 
closely related experience plus the ability to meet the requirements of 10 
CFR 35.900 (RSO training & experience requirements). A Master's degree 
and/or certification by the American Board of Health Physics/ABR or 
equivalent are preferred.  Additionally the ability to meet the MQSA 
training and experience requirements for a mammography physicist is also 
preferred.

The successful candidate must have excellent oral and written communication 
skills and good interpersonal skills. Ability to use computer equipment and 
software to support various radiation safety tasks as needed.  Candidate 
must be able to participate in the Radiation Safety emergency response and 
have the ability to respond (sometimes in person) to emergency calls.
SALARY: Salary commensurate with experience.
